PSYCHIATRIST

About

Kara Driscoll, MD

I am a board-certified psychiatrist and the owner of The Allegro Center LLC. I opened The Allegro Center in 2014 with the goal of providing thoughtful and individualized mental healthcare that is supported by the most recent scientific data. This includes diagnostic evaluation, second-opinion consultations, psychotherapy, and treatment with medication.

My private practice focuses on the treatment of anxiety and mood disorders in women during times of hormonal change, such as pregnancy, postpartum, the menstrual cycle, and perimenopause as well as patients undergoing infertility treatment and those who’ve experienced perinatal loss. I also have an interest in the care of those with medical illness impacting their emotional health, such as epilepsy, polycystic ovarian disease and autoimmune illness.

Prior to opening The Allegro Center, I was an Assistant Professor at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center followed by a faculty position at Northwestern University as Associate Training Director of the psychiatry residency program.

In addition to private practice, I am affiliated with Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine where I serve as a clinical supervisor for the Perinatal and Women's Mental Health Fellowship at The Asher Center. I am a fellow of the American Psychiatric Association as well as a member of the Illinois Psychiatric Society, Marce Society of North America, and the North American Society for Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology. I have served on the Maternal Mortality Review Committee on Violent Deaths, a subcommittee of the Perinatal Advisory Committee of IDPH, since its inception in 2015. Additionally, I am on the faculty of Postpartum Support International and volunteer for their Psychiatric Consultation Line.

I enjoy spending time with my husband and daughter in the kitchen cooking, traveling near and far, and singing. I’m originally from St. Louis (go Cards!) but have called Chicago home since 2007.
